SEASONS

Winter in the Dolomites.

Choose the geography first. The snow comes second.

Winter here is not one continuous resort. Some areas are linked into long ski days. Others are divided into distinct sectors. Several towns work well for non-skiers, while smaller villages are at their best when everyone wants the mountain from the first lift.

For ski-first trips

Select the base around the terrain, lift access and final run home. A hotel can be close to a lift without being close to the lift that matters. Check the current map, operating status and transport rather than relying on a broad destination label.

For mixed groups

Cortina, Ortisei and other complete towns can support shopping, food, spa time and winter walks alongside skiing. In a smaller base, verify what remains available when someone chooses not to ski.

For the days beyond skiing

Snowshoeing, cross-country routes, winter walking, sledding, mountain lunches and hotel time can improve a week when they are chosen for the place rather than added as generic activities.

Check again before departure

Snow, wind, lift openings, road conditions, winter equipment rules and transfer schedules change. Every practical article must show a last-checked date and link to the relevant current official source.
