AN INDEPENDENT GUIDE TO CHOOSING THE RIGHT BASE, HOTEL, TABLE AND RHYTHM. SWITCH TO WINTER

Start with the town,
not the hotel.

Dolomites.it is an independent guide to choosing the right base, hotel, table and rhythm in the Italian Dolomites. It is for travellers who already know the mountains are beautiful and need help deciding what to do with that fact.

The most expensive mistake in the Dolomites is booking a beautiful hotel in the wrong valley.

Cortina d’Ampezzo gives you a real town, high-profile hotels and the dramatic geography of the Ampezzo valley. Alta Badia is the strongest all-round choice for food, Ladin hospitality and an elegant ski week. Val Gardena is the practical answer for serious mountain access, with Ortisei and Selva offering very different versions of the same valley. Alpe di Siusi is for open horizons and quieter days. Canazei puts you directly into the machinery of the Sellaronda.

Winter is not one product

A winter week can be built around mileage, long lunches, spa time, children, social life or silence.

Cortina’s ski areas are spread around the valley. Alta Badia and Val Gardena connect naturally to the Sella circuit. Alpe di Siusi feels gentler and more open. Canazei is efficient for skiers who want the circuit at the door.

Summer rewards a slower map

Summer changes the hierarchy. A base chosen for ski convenience may not be the one you want for walking, road cycling or quiet mornings.

The best summer plans combine one strong base with lifts, rifugi and day routes rather than changing hotels every night.

Stay well

Our hotel coverage does not confuse luxury with a star count. We look at location, access, atmosphere, service, food, spa, seasonality and whether the property makes sense for the trip around it.

Eat with a plan

The Dolomites contain ambitious dining rooms, Ladin family kitchens and mountain huts that can define an entire day. Reservations, lift access and transfer time matter as much as the menu.
